September Style: The New Season Trends You Need to Know
September is that wonderful in-between month when summer hasn’t quite left us, but autumn is calling…
It’s one of my favourite times of the year to dress because you don’t need to completely abandon your summer wardrobe. Instead, September is all about transitioning your favourite pieces into the new season with richer colours, beautiful textures and clever layering says Stylist and owner Kerrie Griffin from Feathers Of Italy.
At Feathers Of Italy, we believe great style isn’t about following every trend. It’s about choosing the trends that work for you, adding a little Italian glamour and creating outfits that make you feel fabulous.
So, what should we be wearing this September?
1. Burgundy — the colour of the season
If there is one colour you need to know about this autumn, it’s burgundy.
Deep, sophisticated and wonderfully flattering, burgundy is having another major fashion moment for AW26, appearing across everything from tailoring and dresses to knitwear and accessories. (Vogue)
And the beauty of burgundy is that it doesn’t have to be difficult to wear.
Try a burgundy blouse with cream trousers, a merlot-toned dress with knee-high boots, or simply introduce the colour through a handbag, scarf or statement shoe.
For an especially luxurious look, pair burgundy with chocolate brown.
The result? Effortlessly expensive.

2. Chocolate brown is the new neutral
Move over black — chocolate brown is having a serious moment.
From tailored trousers and jackets to knitwear, handbags and denim, rich chocolate and espresso tones are everywhere for autumn 2026. (Glamour UK)
The secret to wearing brown beautifully is to think tonally.
Try chocolate with:
Cream + chocolate for understated luxury
Burgundy + chocolate for rich autumn glamour
Denim + chocolate for relaxed everyday dressing
Moss green + chocolate for a sophisticated country feel
And if you really want to embrace the trend, try different shades of brown together rather than searching for an exact match.

3. Suede is back — and it’s gorgeous
There is something about suede that instantly makes an outfit feel more luxurious.
This September, suede jackets, skirts and accessories are perfect for those cooler mornings when you need something a little more substantial without reaching for a winter coat. Suede is particularly strong in chocolate, tobacco, tan and olive tones. (Marie Claire UK)
A suede jacket over a flowing dress is one of my favourite ways to wear it.
It gives you that effortless “I just threw this on” look — while secretly looking incredibly put together.

4. Don’t put your summer whites away
Who says white is only for summer?
September is the perfect time to wear cream, ivory and soft white, particularly when combined with autumn textures.
Think a crisp white shirt underneath a chocolate blazer, ivory knitwear with dark denim, or a flowing cream dress styled with a suede jacket and boots.
White can actually look incredibly luxurious against deeper autumn shades, and fashion’s old rule about putting white away after summer is firmly outdated. (People.com)
So keep wearing those beautiful light pieces — just style them differently.

5. Moss green — your new sophisticated neutral
If burgundy and chocolate aren’t quite your colours, there is another shade worth discovering this September: moss green.
Richer and moodier than summer’s fresh greens, moss works beautifully with neutrals and looks particularly gorgeous in tactile fabrics such as suede, wool and knitwear. (Glamour UK)
Try moss green with cream, denim, chocolate brown or even a touch of soft pink.
It has a wonderfully sophisticated, slightly country-house feel — and we absolutely love that at Feathers Of Italy.

6. Tailoring, but make it effortless
Tailoring isn’t going anywhere.
But this season it’s less about looking overly corporate and more about relaxed sophistication.
Think beautifully cut trousers, softly structured jackets, oversized blazers and coordinated pieces that can be dressed up or down.
The trick is to mix something structured with something softer.
For example:
Tailored trousers + flowing blouse
Oversized blazer + relaxed denim
Statement jacket + simple knit
Wide-leg trousers + fitted top
It’s that contrast that makes an outfit feel modern.
7. Prints are still having their moment
September doesn’t mean everything suddenly has to become plain and sensible.
If you’re a Feathers Of Italy woman, you’ll know we love a little drama.
Animal prints, heritage checks and statement patterns are all perfect for the new season. (Woman & Home)
The trick is to let one piece do the talking.
A fabulous printed blouse with simple trousers.
A statement dress with understated accessories.
Or a patterned scarf over an otherwise neutral outfit.
You don’t need to wear head-to-toe print to make an entrance.

8. The September secret? Layering.
This is perhaps the most important trend of all.
September weather in Britain can change from warm sunshine to chilly evenings in a matter of hours, so your wardrobe needs to work with you.
Think:
Dress + suede jacket
Blouse + tailored blazer
Knit + wide-leg trousers
Shirt + gilet
Lightweight jumper + flowing skirt
And, of course, never underestimate the power of a beautiful scarf.
A scarf isn’t simply something to keep you warm — it can completely transform an outfit.
So, what should you actually buy?
If you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe rather than completely replace it, I’d concentrate on a few key pieces:
A beautiful autumnal colour — burgundy, chocolate or moss.
A fabulous jacket — suede or beautifully tailored.
A versatile pair of trousers — preferably wide-leg or softly tailored.
A gorgeous blouse — something that can work with denim during the day and tailoring at night.
A statement scarf — the easiest way to bring colour and personality to an existing wardrobe.
And finally…
Something that makes you feel fabulous.
Because trends come and go. Style doesn’t.
At Feathers Of Italy, we’re all about finding those pieces that make you walk a little taller, feel a little more confident and look effortlessly put together — whether you’re heading out for lunch, travelling to Italy, meeting friends or simply enjoying a beautiful autumn day.
September style rule?
Don’t put your personality away with your summer clothes.
Bring it into autumn with you.
Add richer colour. Add texture. Add a little glamour.
And most importantly, wear what makes you feel amazing.
